Sermon Introduction

I was taught in my Homiletics Class that the first 3 minutes of the message is the most important part because you either gain or lose your listener in those few moments. So, I put a good deal of thought into how to gain and keep people's attention. That has led to some wild intros. So what do you think? Is the intro that important? How much time/energy do you spend on preparing introductions, props, costumes, etc. to grab people's attention?
